Write a physical material brief

FSC labels describe the sourcing of forest-based materials. They do not replace a packaging specification. Our purchasing recommendation is to record the intended use, structure, paper appearance, finish and sample requirements separately. Compare physical samples with the proposed print treatment. A brown colour or tactile texture alone is not evidence of FSC certification or recycled content.

Understand the three claims

FSC 100% means the forest-based material comes from FSC-certified forests. FSC Recycled identifies products made from 100% recycled material. FSC Mix permits a combination of material from FSC-certified forests, recycled material and/or FSC-controlled wood. Controlled wood is not FSC-certified forest material. Do not interpret “Mix” as a stated recycled-content percentage, or any FSC label as a guarantee of local recyclability.

Verify the proposed label

FSC advises buyers wanting an on-product label to verify that the final product supplier is FSC-certified, request certified material, and specify the label. Certified suppliers submit proposed label use to their certification body for approval. Ask which parts of your packaging the claim covers and retain the agreed specification and approved artwork. This demo makes no certification claim for LuxePack.
